From Anxiety to Empowerment: The Design and Development of a Serious Game to Tackle Phone Anxiety

Ideation, prototyping and evaluation of Telephobia, a serious game designed to address phone call-related anxieties by raising awareness and introducing coping strategies, with promising results and valuable insights gained through evaluation methods.

For the course Serious Gaming, our group created "Telephobia", a serious game targeting phone call-related anxieties. It provides a safe, immersive environment to increase awareness and introduce coping strategies for telephobia. Using thinking-aloud sessions and semi-structured interviews for evaluation, we found that our prototype, despite still having a lot of room for improvement, showed promise. The process was challenging, yet ultimately rewarding, as it provided valuable insights into implementing a characterizing learning goal within an enjoyable experience.
