Bachelor's Thesis: The Effect of Music on Atmosphere and Purchase Intentions in Video Games

My thesis was an exploratory study on the effect of music on the perceived characteristics of a game environment and on customers’ in-game (microtransaction) purchasing intentions. Here my focus was not only on the influence of music on the user’s game-perception and the user’s buying behavior. It was also on designing the experience for the test-subjects. A large portion of the time was spent researching, creating and refining the tester’s experience. Building a game from the ground up and streamlining the process from the invitation up to the questionnaire in order to both efficiently test my variables as well as create an enjoyable experience for the users participating in the experiment. The resulting grade was a 7.7. Researching the interaction between my game and the user was something I thoroughly enjoyed, and see myself doing more of in the future.
